Telling the Story of Catholic Charities Annual Impact Report
An annual impact report is more than a summary of numbers. It is an opportunity to honor lives changed, steward donor trust, and clearly communicate the heart of an organization’s mission.
For the past several years, Mission Forward Marketing has had the privilege of leading the content development for the Catholic Charities Community Services Annual Impact Report, working in close collaboration with their Director of Marketing, an approved graphic designer, and their print partner to bring each report to life from concept to distribution.
Starting with a Shared Vision
Each year begins not with layouts or copy, but with conversation.
We work closely with the Director of Marketing to establish a unifying theme that reflects both the realities of the fiscal year and the deeper mission of Catholic Charities. Together, we talk through what mattered most that year – emerging needs, meaningful moments, and stories that best reflect the organization’s work across Central and Northern Arizona.
Many stories are written throughout the year for other channels. For the annual report, our focus is on curation – selecting stories that are impactful but not overused, ensuring the report feels fresh, intentional, and worthy of long-term reference.
Balancing Story, Data, and Trust
A Catholic Charities impact report must do several things well at once:
- Share real client stories with dignity and care
- Present clear program data that demonstrates measurable impact
- Include transparent financials that reinforce donor confidence
- Reflect the organization’s faith-based mission without losing accessibility
The report includes:
- A letter from the President & CEO grounding the work in mission and vision
- Client stories that illustrate transformation across programs
- A donor story that reflects partnership and stewardship
- Program numbers that show the scope and scale of impact
- Financials presented clearly and responsibly
- Beautiful photography paired with thoughtfully selected stock imagery
Every element is written and reviewed with one central question in mind: Does this help the reader understand why this work matters?
Collaboration Across Teams and Partners
This report is truly a team effort.
We work closely with Catholic Charities’ approved graphic designer, providing finalized copy, story structure, and content guidance while respecting brand standards and visual hierarchy. The designer brings the content to life through layout, typography, and imagery that reflects both warmth and professionalism.
I also serve as a key point of contact with the printer, ensuring files are prepared correctly, timelines are met, and the final printed piece matches the quality expected of a flagship publication that represents donors, clients, and the organization itself.
Extending the Life of the Report
The impact report doesn’t live in isolation.
To ensure it reaches the right audiences, we also:
- Create a printed postcard mailed to supporters, promoting the report and inviting deeper engagement
- Develop digital versions for online sharing and accessibility
- Use a homepage hero slider to prominently direct website visitors to the report
This integrated approach ensures the report is not just produced – but seen, read, and used as a tool for engagement and trust-building.
Why This Work Matters
Annual reports are often treated as a requirement. I see them as a responsibility.
They are a promise to donors that their generosity was stewarded well. They are a reflection of dignity to the people served. They are a moment to pause, reflect, and clearly communicate impact.
This project represents the kind of work I care deeply about – partnering with organizations doing life-changing work and helping ensure their stories are seen, understood, and honored.
